7 must places for retro furniture

Retro. Vintage. Mid-century. Call it the name you want, the 50s inspired furniture are popular. And decoration shops featuring retro items found their niche in Montreal.

Spring is upon us and I feel like a change in the decor of my living room is needed.

A credenza. A buffet. A dresser. This type of retro furniture, a slightly lower version that can also be used as a TV stand. So why not replace my old Scandinavian furniture that has nothing Scandinavian for a unique piece that gives a bit of originality to the decor!

I did my research, took a Montreal map and visited several places, to finally keep my seven favorite places. Well I know it is not a round number. But it’s cool like it is, you know.

Du Design, du Rétro et du Kitsch

Lots of furniture, a passionate and interested owner, who answered all my questions. Beware though, furniture sell out quickly. Their facebook page is a must, it is updated frequently following new arrivals. My favorite place.

Showroom Mtl

Here we are talking about high-end retro furniture. This shop is, in my opinion, for collectors who are willing to pay the price to find rare items. The flasks are astonishing.

The place is very narrow but there is a lot of furniture. The day I went there, the employee had to call the owner to get a price, which I think would be an area for improvement. They opened a showroom at 1863 (in front). Good news!

Jack’s

This shop is different from others because it casts a wide definition of “retro”. On one side there is mid-century furniture, and on the other, accessories from the 70’s-80’s.

Spoutnik

Just like the previous address, this place is essentially accessories and small furniture. The lamps are very numerous.

Although this shop has no web site or facebook page, it has great potential. Between all places I visited, this was the one where the furniture was the most abundant.

No this is not a joke! This place is eclectic I agree. You will surely have a sudden urge to wash your hands after, but it is a really good spot in Montreal to find accessories and small furniture.

Address

3250 Crémazie Blvd. East, corner St-Michel

I still have not found my ideal piece of furniture, but one thing is certain, it will be at one of these addresses. And you, what are your favorite places?
