HEROES Lager Celebrates Official Launch at Historic Fort York

It was under the sun on the grounds of historic Fort York that HEROES, the flagship beer from Southpaw Beverage Company, officially made its debut.

The new blonde heroes lager, a passion project by founders, Murray Milthorpe and Greg Valentyne, was created to celebrate everyday heroes – whether it’s your parents, emergency responders or veterans.

Eye-catching with a bright red can, the venue was decorated in similar fashion for a very “Canadian” affair.

Hosted by Toronto sweetheart and television personality, Jenn Valentyne (who also happens to be the wife of co-founder, Greg), the event offered live entertainment from Juno nominee, Tom Barlow, and a delicious selection of BBQ treats. Food vendors included Pizza Libretto, who made a mouth-watering Nutella pizza, juicy sliders from Chef D, mini salads and dips from Summer Fresh and more.

Other highlights included a firing of the onsite cannon, a donation to veterans charity, Wounded Warriors, and a surprise performance by Ms Valentyne who performed a soulful rendition of  “Crazy” by Patsy Cline.

Notable guests in attendance included much of the CityTV family with on-air personalities from Tracy Moore to Dina Pugliese, Frank Ferragine, Gord Martineau, among others. But it was the surprise appearance by Fashion Santa (aka Paul Mason) that seemed to cause the biggest stir – at least around the female attendees (myself included)!

All in all, it was a fun event and a great way to spend a warm summer evening.
